Fact 11:As an engineer he worked on flood control when the Mississippi River burst its banks in 1927.
 
Fact 12:He was blamed for not seeing the 1929 Wall Street Crash coming when billions of dollars were lost in a single day that ruined many Americans. The crash was followed by the Great Depression which had far reaching effects on the US stock market which didn't return to pre-depression levels until 1954.
 
Fact 13:During his presidency the 20th amendment (Lame Duck Amendment) added to the Constitution reducing the amount of time between election day and the beginning of the presidential terms.
 
Fact 14:One of the consequences of the Great Depression was the 1932 Bonus Army March in which veterans camped on government property. The president ordered General Douglas Macarthur to clear the protestors. MacArthur's high handed approach resulted in further criticism of the president
 
Fact 15:The president died of an internal hemorrhaging on October 20, 1964 in his suite on the 31st floor of the Waldorf Towers New York.
 
Fact 16:He was buried in West Branch, Iowa.
